Technology In Practice

  • Core architecture, major feature designs and development on an industry-leading J2EE Internet Learning Management System (LMS) deployed via a clustered, BEA Weblogic Server solution. Developed various content management, content to LMS integration, and content publishing solutions including Global Content Caching vendor systems analysis and LMS integration. Defined and launched the architecture for a SOAP-based, Web Services framework layer built around Apache AXIS and founded upon a service-oriented paradigm delivering a multi-threaded broker for servicing core requests for remote clients over the WWW with desired QOS characteristics. Provided core architecture and design services, serving as a systems expert for many different architectural initiatives and sub-system tasks by developing various business features throughout the application lifecycle. Consulted on software infrastructure, delivering design and implementation of low level services such as logging, exception and error management, and metrics for the core application. Developed a full SCM build and deployment automation process, scripted via Jakarta/ANT and CVS. Performed infrastructure requirements and existing system’s coding analysis. Designed and implemented an XML-driven Shockwave application that collaborates with the core LMS system to present dynamic content based in industry standard Q&TI assessment DTD’s.

  • Systems architect and lead developer on a J2EE, infrastructure project focused on enterprise integration through shared services and facilities layers designed to support key product offerings by providing common capabilities and EAI semantics across applications. Project based on J2EE technologies including collaborations between EJB through JNDI, asynchronous system load points via JMS, data integration based on XML/XSLT, and managing the integration with C++ CORBA, and Java-based applications. Responsible for the implementation of data translation services based on XML/XSLT exposed through programmatic interfaces to client applications and facilitating style sheet maintenance through an API-wrapped repository accessed through a custom persistence layer. Defined development processes, requirements, and guidelines, and provided documentation templates for the technology team. Contributed analysis, architecture, and implementation for a vertical Internet marketplace. Contributed to the development of a service-oriented, Internet market community application based on a business trade exchange. Netscape server-side JavaScript with Live-Connect technology hosted by a Java business objects, application framework and persisting in an Oracle-8i data store. Next release application architecture specified with an EJB/XML system running within a J2EE application server. Performed research and analysis for an Aviation vertical market interfacing with industry standards, SPEC2000 protocols and operational workflow.

  • Redesign for scalability and structural flexibility, within a Java on Solaris, image-processing and order fulfillment application, which will be servicing client nodes deployed to over 40,000 unique locations. Architecture, design, and implementation for a custom marshalling framework, a static bridge for a COM to CORBA, pass by value over HTTPS application. Performed system/infrastructure security assessment, gap analysis, and disaster recovery process definitions for a suite of remote client applications. Defined the architecture and design specification for an ASP-driven Internet application using ADO and custom business components built with MS Visual C++ running in an MTS context, and persisting against MS SQL Server database. Using JNI, integrated JSP web view modules with components based in C++ libraries implementing the OBI/EDI supply chain management paradigm within an e-Commerce, on-line catalog implementation based on BroadVision. Provided architectural assessments on several existing and design stage applications delivering direction and verifying analysis. Wrote technical proposals, estimated project timelines, and compiled specifications in response to client submissions for quotes and services. Designed and implemented an automated reporting and systems processing batch application based on integrating NT executables, Solaris shell scripts, mainframe data feeds, Oracle data store with native PL/SQL packages, and custom, packaged online UI. Wrote development and CM processes for project teams based on UML, Rational Rose, and Rational SODA as templates and process deliverables.

  • Corporate IS system analyst and implementation leader for enterprise-wide, OO, framework-based applications. Operating within the Mach-Kernel OPEN STEP client/server development platform against a Sybase data store. Functioned as the applications technical team leader, guiding development and workflow effort through the analysis, business domain breakdown, and code implementation of major business functionality into existing, model-structured applications. Business objects and architecture modeled using OMT/UML notation, Objective-C, NeXT Foundation Kit, and proprietary underlying persistence frameworks. Contributed architectural definitions for the establishment of distributed services within the legacy infrastructure using IBM MQ Series and Java-based CORBA implementations. Analysis and presentation for business cluster reuse performance against corporate reuse initiatives. Lead software quality assurance efforts by working with application test teams and writing detailed acceptance test scenarios against business use cases. Delivered level of effort analysis and process procedures for full-scope application porting from NeXT 3.3 to Open Step 4.2. Performed Y2K product integration and analysis, written detailed Y2K certification test scripts, and executed interoperability testing/configuration for Open Step 4.2 compliance, Sybase 11.Y2K release, and against existing custom-built UI mechanisms.

  • Lead GUI concept and application developer for ATE depot test/repair facilities designated for multi-channel voice/data switching systems in the air traffic control industry. Develop, coordinate, and administer functional tests, procedures, and related documentation for telecommunications equipment. Project team leader in the design of functional, throughput, automated hardware product tests for use during QA production stages and in DEPOT return/repair action. Extensive familiarity through research and test feasibility design for product line based on E1, T1, ISDN, and CEPT Mitel-Telecom chip sets. Test systems were implemented via Windows GUI/Operator-Interface applications, which served as the test suite access facility.

  • Developed architecture and application code for a C/S system designed to support operations within the import/export industry. Object oriented design and programming using Powerbuilder, Forte, and C++ Windows API code. Applications resolved onto Windows 3.xx, NT, Windows 95, and UNIX platforms. Wrote RDBMS instance creation scripts managing stored procedure code, triggers, grants, and device partition tablespace allocation. Performed RDBMS parameter and benchmark tuning for Oracle ver. 7.x and Sybase ver. 4.9 & 10. UNIX shell scripting (Korn and Perl Command Interpreters) for menu-driven sequences required in an on-site, customer-actuated application installation.

  • Control software coding and system translation for nuclear power plant simulation. Electrical distribution system, main generator, generic component code (valves, pumps, breakers, etc.,) and control systems logic, dynamics, and indication for power plant control rooms in a real-time simulation environment. Modeling realized using FORTRAN, C, and C++ coding segments, GUI/CAD design software, and SQL query control of the simulation database. Application script development performed using UNIX Korn/C Shells. Personnel training and coordination with the implied technologies, and acted as the lead software tools expert on a project level. Simulation specification and coding performed under strictly defined documentation that modeled the particulars of the plant as foreseen by the system engineer in context of the scope of simulation. Specializing in German BWR and Russian PWR designs of nuclear power plants, both in power distribution and functional control. Operating on an SGI Challenge-L/UNIX driven LAN, and utilizing INGRES and R-BASE database software as the data platform.
